How much is an infrared flash for a camera?

I have a Nikon D40 and I need an infrared flash for this winter. How much is the cheapest one I can find, but still a good one?How much is an infrared flash for a camera?
What is it that you need an infrared flash to do? Are you wanting an infrared illumination device, or a flash controller?

Because your camera has a strong IR blocking filter built over the chip that sees, your results will be dismal, at best.

However, if you purchase IR filter material in plastic sheets you can cut and make a IR hood or filter to go over almost any flash you might have. If you buy this filter material, make sure it is 87c or RM 90 type. This filter type allows NO visible light thru what so ever and only IR light goes through..

Now, if you remove the IR - UV blocking filter from a D-SLR you will have a very sensitive IR camera. Fuji makes a few with this blocking filter already removed. Their flag ship model was the S-3 IRUV Pro built on a Nikon body and takes almost all of Nikon's lenses. Fuji also has the IS10 and had others over the past few years. One of these may be more what your looking for.

If your looking for a IR flash to trigger remote equipment look into Interfits IR flash - http://www.interfitphotographic.com/Acce鈥?/a> ..
